Half French, half Venezuelan, Alexander Mignot grew up on the island of Margarita, in Venezuela, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and surfing daily. Connected to his great passion, he decides to live on a sailboat with his faithful four-legged friend Kaya. For seven years they cross the seas looking for waves in the world. When necessary, he sought construction work in the Caribbean islands. He would never have stopped travelling had it not been for his “Niña Del Mar” sunk, leaving Mignot with no property or place to live. He then decides to move to Europe to start a new stage in his life.
After exploring several cities and with almost no resources, he decides to settle in Lisbon. Unexpectedly, a well-known art collector contacts him when he is fascinated by a mural painted by Mignot in one of the buildings where he works and convinces and motivates him to paint professionally.
Colour and painting were always important in Mignot’s life but now a canvas also joins his work, thus managing to present his free, spontaneous work with a wonderful sense of colour for the first time, to the Public on July 20, 2017, in the city of Miami where the public understands instantly that an artist has been born. From that moment and after two and a half more years of office, Mignot exhibited six different individual shows in Mexico City, New York, Madrid, Paris, St. Barths and Mykonos. All very well received, successful and quickly acquired by collectors where it makes it part of different Blue Chip collections around the world.
Art becomes Mignot’s life and purpose. His studio is in Lisbon where he lives, paints and chases waves. Yet he continues to travel wherever life takes him reaping new life experiences that dictate his next inspiration.
“I paint what I know.”
