Alejandro Susunaga, originally from Mexico City, became interested in painting and printmaking from a young age. At 21, he traveled to the semi-desert to teach painting to children in the community, but soon became involved in farm work, settling for six years in the Wirikuta Protected Natural Area, San Luis Potosí. He then traveled to Europe and settled in Spain, where he specialized in large-format and collographs at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. He currently resides in Wirikuta and works on his artwork and at Casa Ta-Mazi, an artist residency. His art combines the abstract and the figurative, experimenting with painting and printmaking techniques such as oil, acrylic, woodcut, linocut, and collographs. Monumental, modern, organic forms, and a diversity of nuances are hallmarks of his work. His main themes are divinity, fertility and mystery, represented through geometric figures, female faces and amorphous lines, reflecting his interest in introspection and caring for the human being.
